The Sexin Goddess
A personal, analytical, & unsystematic way of viewing lifeRecommended Literature
Here is a list of the text I’ve read and a little review on them (if I have time) I’m even going to put in text books and rate them too, there’s some that I highly recommend and some that should be mass boycotted!!
- Disgrace, Coetzee, J.M
This book is seen as a core to the postmodernism movement. Coetzee even won a nobel peace prize for this book, so definately worthwhile reading.
It’s about a lecturer David Lurie who is a bit of a womaniser, he sleeps with one of his students then gets booted out of university for refusing to apologise. He goes into the bush to live with his daughter Lucy for a while. One day after taking a walk 3 men come to their house, they rob the house, setting Lurie on fire in the toilet as well as gang rape Lucy.
(by the way Lucy is a lesbian) He becomes over protective over her and almost demands that she report the rape to the police, but she refuses due to the political movement in South Africa at the time. They later find out that the men who raped Lucy were friends of Petrus a black doode who lives on Lucy’s property, known as a friend and helper.
This story addresses the issues of race and the change in government in South Africa, the shift in power. It also explores the irony of life and the sacrifices of justice for personal survival.
